Six neighborhood watch groups across the city announced a joint summer safety initiative this week, coordinating patrol schedules and hosting a series of shared workshops on home security and emergency preparedness.
Organizers say the collaboration grew out of informal conversations between group leaders who realized they were tackling similar issues independently. “There’s no reason six groups should be reinventing the same flyer,” said coordinator Ben Whitfield.
The first joint workshop is scheduled for early June at a community center near Encanto Park, with additional sessions planned throughout the summer.
