The volunteer fire department will mark 75 years of service this weekend with a community celebration featuring a vintage equipment display, a pancake breakfast, and recognition for several members who have served for more than four decades.
Founded in 1950 by a group of local residents after a series of brush fires threatened the area, the department has grown from a handful of volunteers with a single truck to a roster of more than 30 responders.
“Almost everyone here has a day job,” said Fire Chief Norm Castellano. “They just also happen to run into burning buildings on their off hours.” The anniversary celebration is free and open to the public.
